Problem

Suppose that the functions $\dot{u}$ and $w$ are \[ \begin{array}{l} u(x)=5 x+4 \\ w(x)=-3 x-3 \end{array} \] Find the following. \[ \begin{array}{l} (u \circ w)(-3)= \\ (w \circ u)(-3)= \end{array} \]

Solution

Step 1 :\(w(-3) = -3*(-3) - 3 = 9 - 3 = 6\)

Step 2 :\(u(6) = 5*6 + 4 = 30 + 4 = 34\)

Step 3 :\((u \circ w)(-3) = \boxed{34}\)

Step 4 :\(u(-3) = 5*(-3) + 4 = -15 + 4 = -11\)

Step 5 :\(w(-11) = -3*(-11) - 3 = 33 - 3 = 30\)

Step 6 :\((w \circ u)(-3) = \boxed{30}\)
