Problem

6 Two boys, Shawn and Curtis, went far a walk. Shawn began walking 20 seconds earlier than Curtis. - Shawn walked at a speed of 5 feet per second. - Curtis walked at a speed of 6 feet per second. For how many seconds had Shawn been walking at the moment when the two boys had walked exactly the same distance?

Solution

Step 1 :Let s be the distance both Shawn and Curtis walked. Let t be the time Shawn walked for. Then, s=5t for Shawn and s=6(t-20) for Curtis.

Step 2 :Set the two equations equal to each other: 5t=6(t-20)

Step 3 :Solve for t: t=\(\frac{120}{1}\)
