Problem

Sammy went to the store with a \( \$ 100 \) bill. He bought 3 loaves of bread for \( \$ 4 \) each and a notebook for \( \$ 13 \). He then went to another store and bought 4 bags of chips for \( \$ 2 \) each. Based on the expression below, what is the amount of money that Sammy has left? \[ 100-3(4)-13-4(2) \] A. \( \$ 12 \) B. \( \$ 75 \) C. \( \$ 33 \) D. \( \$ 67 \)

Solution

Step 1 :100 - 3(4) - 13 - 4(2) = 100 - 12 - 13 - 8

Step 2 :100 - 12 - 13 - 8 = 88 - 13 - 8

Step 3 :88 - 13 - 8 = 75 - 8 = 67
