Problem

Given the matrices \( A \) and \( B \) shown below, find \( 4 A-\frac{1}{2} B \). \[ A=\left[\begin{array}{c} -3 \\ -5 \\ 5 \end{array}\right] \quad B=\left[\begin{array}{c} -8 \\ -6 \\ -18 \end{array}\right] \]

Solution

Step 1 :\( 4A=\left[\begin{array}{c} -12\\ -20\\ 20\end{array}\right] \)

Step 2 :\( \frac{1}{2}B=\left[\begin{array}{c} -4\\ -3\\ -9\end{array}\right] \)

Step 3 :\( 4A-\frac{1}{2}B =\left[\begin{array}{c} -8\\ -17\\ 29\end{array}\right] \)
